The short explanation of this alert was:

PETA recently received calls about Verizon's new LG Dare commercial, which features two aggressive pit bulls whose ears are cut in a "fight crop." In the ad, the dogs are heavily chained in a junkyard. When we found out about the commercial, we immediately contacted Verizon to let them know that this ad sends an extremely damaging message, and we asked that the company pull the ad. Verizon has denied our request and refuses even to meet with PETA to discuss the issue.

Pit bulls are the most abused of all dogs, and this commercial sends the message that it is acceptable to chain pit bulls to junked cars and use them as cheap security devices. Every day, PETA staff members see neglected and abused dogs in our cruelty-to-animals investigations, and many of them are chained and neglected pit bulls whose ears have been sharply cut back—just like the dogs in the Verizon commercial. According to animal behaviorists, chained dogs often become agitated, frustrated, and aggressively protective of their tiny territories. When chained dogs break free, children are most often the victims of their aggression. Many jurisdictions across the country are banning or restricting the chaining of dogs.

Please take a few moments to use the form below to send an e-mail to Verizon CEO Ivan Seidenberg and Executive Director of Media Relations Brenda Raney. Request that Verizon stop circulating this commercial immediately.
