If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit PETA's Online Community. The Country Christmas Western Gift Expo is being held at the Las Vegas Sands Expo and Convention Center December 4 to 14. One exhibitor is selling sugar gliders and promoting them as great Christmas gifts. Sugar gliders do not make good pets.
These inquisitive marsupials live in colonies. They are extremely territorial and spend most of their time in trees. Sugar gliders are nocturnal, which means they get active right when you want to sleep. They are messy and fussy eaters who require a highly specialized diet. Many veterinarians have no expertise in this exotic species. It is illegal to own sugar gliders in California and Pennsylvania.
People who purchase sugar gliders on a whim often quickly tire of these high-maintenance pets. Many languish in tiny cages; others die in the shuffle from one owner to the next. Some are simply dumped and left to die.
Please use the form below to write a short note to the organizers of this event and the hosting facility asking them to eliminate any booths offering live animals for sale.
