Urgent: Tell Selah High School to Nix 'Donkey Basketball' Game
Selah High School in Selah, Washington, plans to host a cruel "donkey basketball" game this Wednesday, March 19. Donkey basketball games are miserable for the animals involved. Hauled around in cramped and stuffy trailers, the donkeys are denied proper exercise, and food and water are often withheld before games in an effort to prevent unsightly "accidents."
The noise and chaos of the games are extremely stressful for the donkeys, who often endure the additional trauma of being shoved, kicked, screamed at, or whipped when they are found to be "uncooperative" by their riders. Although experts agree that an average-sized donkey is only able to bear a little more than 100 pounds, the animals are typically forced to carry full-grown adults in donkey basketball games.
Please urge Selah High School to cancel the donkey basketball game immediately and replace it with an event in which all participants choose to be involved. PETA has provided the school district with a list of exciting, animal-free ideas. Let school officials know that donkey basketball games result in suffering and abuse.
Please keep all correspondence polite, as anything less will hurt our efforts.
