In this day and age, it’s hard to believe that anyone still wears real fur, but sadly, many people are unaware of the horrific cruelty involved in each fur or fur-trimmed coat, scarf, and hat. The conditions that exist on fur farms in China—where more than half of the fur products sold in the United States originate—are the worst imaginable. Workers stomp on the heads and necks of animals and rip the skin off their backs often while they are still conscious. There are no laws regulating how these animals are treated.

On top of the millions of minks, foxes, raccoons, rabbits, and other animals who are skinned for their fur each year, a
recent investigation found that millions of dogs and cats in China are being bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and strangled with wire nooses, their fur exported and often mislabeled as “rabbit” or “raccoon.” Plain and simple: If you wear fur, there’s no telling whose skin you’re wearing.
Many companies have pledged never to sell fur again, including
Forever 21, Gadzooks, J.Crew, Wet Seal, and Polo Ralph Lauren. Follow their lead—sign the fur-free pledge today.
