Tell Fairfax Petland to Stop Freezing Baby Animals Alive
Petland is a national chain that sells puppies, kittens, birds, and small animals. It is reprehensible for pet stores to contribute to the overpopulation crisis, which affects all companion animals, and this indefensible and unscrupulous practice is a more than sufficient cause for action. But Petland has really outdone itself this time. PETA has obtained video footage of baby mice and rats being frozen alive so that they can be sold as snake food at at the Petland store located at 9404-A Main St. in Fairfax, Virginia.
In the video footage, employees take live baby rats, or "pinkies," from their mother and place them in a freezer to die slow, painful deaths. The store's manager expresses his approval of this practice, which he even admits is "inhumane, a little bit." We think that this is more than "a little" inhumane. The pinkies might be young, but a wealth of scientific research shows that infant mice and rats are quite sensitive to pain. This is a cruel practice that must be stopped.

PETA told Petland's president what the video footage uncovered. The president's brief response did not indicate that any action would be taken to put an end to the cruel practice. You can read his reply here.
Please politely urge Petland President Frank Difatta to ensure that its policy against freezing live animals is implemented and observed at Petland stores nationwide.
