The short explanation of this alert was:

Conditions for elephants at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom (formerly known as Six Flags Marine World) in Vallejo, California, are among the worst of any zoo in the country. In addition to outdated facilities and circus-style training methods that rely on force and physical punishment, the park uses elephants in rides and circus-like shows—practices that many zoos have abandoned because of humane and public safety concerns.

A pending sale of the city's interest in Six Flags Discovery Kingdom to the park would include four elephants "owned" by the city of Vallejo. The city of Vallejo has made millions of dollars from the park and the elephants. Instead of selling them like furniture, the city must ensure that the elephants are provided with a peaceful retirement at a sanctuary. Please contact the city of Vallejo and insist that it take responsibility for the elephants' well-being by sending them to a sanctuary.
