Tell Coach House Gifts to End the Sale of Live Animals

Recently, PETA received a complaint about the sale of hermit crabs at the Coach House Gifts store in Bloomington, Indiana, where several crabs were reportedly dead and appeared to have been so for some time. Hermit crabs are delicate animals who require a warm and humid environment, adequate moisture for their gills, and access to both land and water. If they become too dry, the crabs can endure a long, painful death by suffocation. Hermit crabs are gathered in the wild and shipped for sale to stores around the world. Many suffer injuries and die from the handling and transport, and their habitat is being destroyed in part because of excessive collecting for the pet trade. The crabs are sold as mere trinkets to impulse buyers. Little regard is given to what will happen to them once they are sold, and many of these animals die shortly after being sold, becoming victims of buyers who all too often lose interest in them or are ignorant of their very specific needs.

Please urge Coach House Gifts to stop selling live animals immediately. Let the company know that the sale of live animals as merchandise results in the suffering and death of animals.
