We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit PETA Asia-Pacific's Online Community.PETA has been flooded with complaints—from locals and tourists alike—about the horrid living conditions of animals at Pacific Land, a sea resort on Jeju Island in South Korea. The Jeju Island government and the Korean Tourism Organization are heavily promoting Pacific Land, but their endorsements only support the rampant cruelty to animals at the resort.
The sea lions who live at the park are kept in particularly deplorable conditions. They are often forced to perform stunts—such as high altitude diving, playing the piano, and swimming contests—in more than five shows per day. When they aren't performing, the sea lions are kept in barren, extremely crowded, and rusted cages that can't compare to their natural habitats. At the end of each show, the sea lions are made to climb onto a plastic fence and bow to the audience, which has caused many sea lions to develop wounds and scratches on their skin.
Sea lions are intelligent and social animals. In their natural habitats, they spend their days swimming, basking in the warmth of the sun with their families, and nurturing their young.
Please use the form below to send a polite e-mail to Jeju Governor Kim Tae Hwan and Korean Tourism Organization CEO Oh Jee Chul. Urge them to take action to improve the living conditions of sea lions and other animals at Pacific Land and to stop promoting the park.
