Urge Arden Group to Stop Selling Foie Gras

Despite repeated behind-the-scenes attempts to urge Arden Group—which owns the Mayfair Market and Gelson's—to stop selling foie gras, the company continues to sell this cruel product. Foie gras is made by force-feeding ducks and geese such enormous amounts of grain and fat that their livers become diseased and painfully engorged.

As we have told Arden Group, investigations at every foie gras farm in the U.S. and many overseas have documented sick, dead, and dying animals, including some animals with holes in their necks from the pipes that are forced down their throats. One investigation in New York found ducks crammed into wire cages. Their beaks were bloody, and their wings were twisted together. At another foie gras farm, birds were found dangling by wires as blood spilled from their neck wounds onto live birds beneath them.

Foie gras production has been outlawed in the U.K., Germany, the Czech Republic, Finland, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Israel, and Denmark, and it will be illegal to sell or produce foie gras in California after 2012. Many companies worldwide have stopped selling foie gras, and His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI has said that the cruelty inherent in producing foie gras violates biblical principles.

Please watch this Roger Moore narrated exposé. Then take a few moments to ask Arden Group CEO Bernard Briskin to stop the sale of cruel foie gras.
